Spread the love

Perfect love—Can it Be? Can love even exist in an evil world full of darkness, hate, and selfishness? Who among us is even worthy of love? Are we not thoroughly corrupt? Do we not deserve eternal punishment? Have we not despised God and His laws? Have we not turned away from His way and sought after our own self-interest? How could we be loved by the very One we hated? Why would Christ love the unlovable? Why would He die for us, His murderers? Why would He unjustly suffer in the place of those who mistreated Him? How could He have no disdain, resentfulness, or bitterness in His heart towards us? Is love even possible under such conditions? Though we can’t love and are unworthy of love, love has broken into this fallen world in the person of Jesus.

Not only did Christ love us, He loved us perfectly. He loved us thoroughly. He loved us completely. Not once has Christ ever wished evil upon us. Not once has He ever resented us. Not once has Christ ever failed to feel deep compassion, concern, and affection for us. Not once has any of His actions not been motivated out of love for us. No greater love could have been given to us than the perfect love that has been poured out upon us. He poured Himself out until He had nothing left to give of Himself. He gave us His own life. While we yet hated Him, He died for us. What love is this? It is the perfect love of Jesus.
