Spread the love
It is time to rejoice. It is hard to believe that God has broadcast the gospel to a hundred million people—including some of the most powerful people in the world. This would have been the last thing we would have expected just a few years ago. It is nothing less than the mighty hand of God showing great compassion and grace upon this dark world. All who name the name of Jesus and carry His banner should pause and rejoice. If we are thankful for the message of Jonah to the Ninevites, we can be grateful for the gospel message of Charlie Kirk that has spread across the globe in such a way that only God could have brought it about.
It is time to pray. The Ninevites repented with less light given to them. Woe to our leaders and nation if we too do not heed the warning and turn away from our idols. Woe to us if we don’t bend the knee to King Jesus. Before we sing in jubilation by adding “Jesus” to the rest of our recreation and pursuits, we need to bow to King Jesus in repentance and utter submission. We need to pray for the seeds of the gospel to be planted deep into the soils of men’s hearts. We need to pray that we are unashamed to live like Charlie Kirk with boldness, kindness, and love. We need to pray that God brings true revival. Pray that the seeds sown are not commandeered by the fleshly spirit of the age, which doesn’t mind a nominal Christianity that does not require regeneration and sanctification.
It is time to discern. With our excitement and prayerfulness, let’s be discerning. By discerning, I don’t mean that we throw everything out that is not perfectly aligned with our own preferences. We don’t need to become hypercritical, which stems from the spirit of pride and jealousy when we see God working outside our sphere of influence and beyond the fine-tuning of our own theology. The more evil prevails, the more thankful we should be to see any light of the gospel breaking forth in the darkness. By discerning, I mean that we should expect Satan to be working alongside the Spirit. While the Spirit will sow wheat, Satan will sow tares. With the elements of the Spirit, there will be elements of the flesh mixed into any movement. We can see this in the early church (i.e., the Church of Corinth), and as we study the history of the great revivals of the past. Just because we see some positives does not mean we have to embrace everything, and just because we see some negatives does not mean we have to discard everything.
It is time to proclaim. The way forward is for us all to use every door of opportunity to boldly and unashamedly share the glorious goodness of the gospel to a world that is suffering and dying without hope. If this is the first fruit of the stirring of the Spirit, or if it’s a judgment of God that will leave our nation without excuse, our responsibility remains the same. Let us follow the example of Charlie Kirk. If every Christian would ask God to open doors for them to share the message of repentance and faith in Christ to some hurting family member, co-worker, friend, or stranger, then the death of Charlie Kirk will not be in vain—no matter the outcome. God is worthy of us to devote our lives to sharing our faith with everyone.
Christ has commissioned us to go into the world—let’s seize the moment and go with rejoicing, prayer, and discernment as we boldly proclaim the Goodnews to a dying world.
