Although the New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs is already available, “the complete LSB will be released in print by the end of 2021. The first print editions will be a verse-by-verse, text format, with reference editions to follow in 2022” (see here). I’d like to look more into the translating of the Divine Name but what little reading I’ve done makes me like this move in the LSB. What are your thoughts on that issue?
I recently received my copy of the LSB. I have not read thing yet, but what I have read has been very good. Most people will like the LSB if they like the 1995 revision of the NASB.
One thing that really comes out in the LSB is the focus on God. I know that sounds kind of strange considering the whole book is about God, but hear me out. They translate the Tetragrammaton as “Yahweh” instead of “LORD”. For some reason, when you see it translated like that, it is almost shocking to see how often it is there. When translating it as LORD, there is something lost, especially when the reader has to figure out if it is referring to a generic term for God like Adoni, or if it is referring to the tetragrammaton. It brings out the emphasis on God somehow. I think it greatly enhances the Old Testament.
So far, I really love the translation. I have only found one oddity changed due to MacCarthur’s rabid anti-pentecostalism (changing “interpretation” to “translation”, but overall, this is one of the best versions I have ever read. This is likely going to be one of my primary translations, along with the ESV.
