I have been a long time user of e-Sword (alongside BibleWorks) and cannot recommend it highly enough. It is a free Bible study software program that rivals many that you would have to pay for and is better than most. This program also makes basic word studies a breeze and has been of great use to those in my congregation to whom I have recommended it. In fact, they often tell me that they love the layout and how user-friendly the program is. There is not a very steep learning curve with this program, so most anyone can catch on to it fairly quickly. The most recent update was released only yesterday, November 18, although the download page hasn’t yet been changed and still shows version 11.1.0. However, when I downloaded the installer was the correct one for the latest version, versions 11.2.1. It includes more of “the latest versions of third-party components used within e-Sword,” as well as many more “little enhancements and bug fixes.” For those interested, here is a history of updates going back to version 5. It correctly shows the latest version as well.

I am currently serving as the primary teaching elder of Immanuel Baptist Church in Bloomington, Illinois, where I have been since 1993. My fellow-elders are George Drye, Brent Flint, and Ben Murphy, each of whom also resides in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois. Together, by the grace of God, we make up one pretty good pastor! I received my B.A. in Biblical Studies from Columbia Bible College (now Columbia International University) in Columbia, South Carolina. And I received my M.Div. from Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. And, by the way, my last name has a silent 'h' and is pronounced 'troop.' View all posts by Keith Throop
I used e-Sword for years and found myself liking WordSearch (now a product of Lifeway) better. I recently reinstalled e-Sword, but haven’t used it much. With your recommendation, I shall give it another go.
I think it may have to do with what we get used to using. WordSearch is also very good.
I have regretted not buying Bibleworks. sigh.
There must have been an issue with the installer as it is up to version 11.2.2 as of Tuesday morning.
Thanks for the heads up! Yes, it seems that there was an immediate update to version 11.2.1, but it also seems that there are some people having issues with that update, a rare thing for e-Sword, since rick Meyers always does such a good job. Bug fix requests have been sent to Rick, however, and I’m sure things will be straightened out forthwith. I had already downloaded and installed 11.2.1 without any problems, so I will wait a few days to be sure the more recent update issues get settled before updating further.
Keith I concur about E-Sword.
Does anyone have a copy of esword 11.2? I am having trouble with the new display settings on the newest version. I can’t see the text clearly.
